What is a baby giraffe called?

A baby giraffe is called a calf. Unlike some other animals, giraffe calves are born with their eyes open and are able to walk within a few hours of birth. They are typically around 6 feet tall at birth and will double in size within their first year of life.

Giraffe calves are very vulnerable to predators in the wild, so they stay close to their mothers for protection. They are usually weaned off of milk around 6-9 months of age, but they continue to stay with their mothers and learn important skills such as foraging for food and social behaviors from the other members of their herd.

Typically, giraffe calves will stay with their mothers for up to 18 months before they start to venture out on their own. In the wild, giraffes have a lifespan of around 25 years, but in captivity, they can live much longer, up to 40 years or more.
